Lauryn Hill – Repercussions

Whoa where did this come from? I tuned in to Power 92.3 today and heard this gem. Ms. Hill is back and I am pretty damn excited over this track, mainly just because I am a huge fan of her work, and her passion for what she does.

Again I am surprised she is just making music again, but nonetheless very happy about it.

A Tribe Called Quest Tribute Mix! D/L it here FREE

Keeping the new monthly installment of tribute mixes moving properly, I decided to pay my respect to A Tribe Called Quest for the month of June.

Tribe is probably one of my favorite hip hop groups to ever bless the musical world!  Their style of story-telling lyrics combined with the jazzy “smooth like buttah” beats are epic in my opinion!  With every one of their albums being an instant classic after releasing, this was an extremely easy choice for me to do.

This mix features a few solo Q-Tip joints but mainly consists of tracks some may not be so used to hearing down to the all time “must have” joints like “Find A Way” down to my all-time favorite Tribe track, “Electric Relaxation”.

You can download this mix for FREE by clicking HERE

Please take a moment to download the mix and enjoy all the smooth sounds that are in it.  As always please pass, forward, burn or straight up just bump this in your ride if you dig it and let people know about my show on Wednesday nights as well as all the other wonderful shows from the CRD dj roster!

I’m still undecided on next month’s tribute show, so I’m taking suggestions folks…

Peace,

Scend

“NEVER SOLD CRACK” @ The Darkroom (6/10)

I am proud to announce that I will be performing amongst some of Chi-city’s elite microphone conductors @ The Darkroom (Chicago, IL) on Thursday, June 10th!

My good friend and fellow musician, VISUAL, invited me down to be a part of the “Never Sold Crack” tour.  This particular show has some very talented MC’s out of Chi-city who bring lyrical skill to the table in a heavy way.  We also have a group from Detroit that will be in the building reppin’ the Motor City!

The line up includes:

SCHEME (Molemen Records)

QUE BILLA

ABRASIVE METHOD (out of Detroit)

VISUAL

I’ll be on the decks along side special guest DJ ASIATIC to set the tone for the night with hip hop flowing through the speakers all night!

This line up is filled with talent so I do hope to see some familiar and new faces out for this one.  Support not only Chicago artists, but good music as a whole.

This is event is scheduled to start @ 9pm CST w/ an entrance fee of $7.  This is a 21+ yr old event as well.

If you NEVER SOLD CRACK this event has your name written all over it!

Much peace,

DJ Scend

Pete Rock Tribute Mix! D/L it here FREE

After my G.U.R.U. Tribute mix from March got so much love an recognition I decided to keep on with a monthly tribute mix to show my love and respect to artists/producers who not only have a personal impact on my musical journey, but who have made some serious impact to music in general.

Last night I did an all Pete Rock Tribute Mix that you can download for FREE by clicking HERE

Pete Rock is one of the most influential producer/dj’s in my life next to DJ Premier.  Soul Brother #1 is best known for his early work with C.L. Smooth from the 90′s, but does not end there.  He has countless credits for remixes and original joints for artists such as Nas, Redman, The Notorious B.I.G. & Das Efx to name a few.

I do my monthly tribute mixes every 1st Wednesday of the month on my Hump Day Mixshow.  The June tribute mix will pay respect to A Tribe Called Quest so be on the lookout for that to air LIVE on Wednesday, June 2nd!

VISUAL – We Gonna Fly

So I had the honor of meeting and working with VISUAL back in January of this year to practice for an art gallery performance we were both booked for.  I had always known about his music since he did a lot with various Chicago artists that I already knew but never met him in person.  His music reflects his personality to the fullest.  He makes positive hip hop and does a great job at it.  What I mean by that is that his lyrics aren’t all about how much money he makes or how many girls he brings home from the clubs because that’s not his lifestyle.  He’s a family man with some strong goals and visions and the music he makes definitely has that influence.  We have worked on a few things such as him being a guest on my Hump Day Mixshow and I look forward to working on some projects in the near future with this man!

His official track record and artists he has worked with is pretty extensive so you can check out his website by clicking HERE to get all his latest news, event info and random thoughts

Randome Words of Past Events

Ok.  It has been SOME time since I have been audible about much of anything.  This is not because I haven’t had much to share.  It’s more like, I’ve been trying to play catch-up wit myself. I have to admit that I struggle with talking about myself at times (who could believe someone as self-centered as I am struggles in this area).  Anyway it was brought to my attention (Jay/Rebel 1 put an AK-47 to my temple and stole my lunch money) that I need to get this info out to everyone.  So, following this ramble You will see posts from me on the following:  Life with Kwest_on, Cooking with Kwest_on, Music with Kwest_on, Isn’t Kwest_on Great, How Can I Be Like Kwest_on, and my all time favorite from the occasional hater – Who Died and Made Kwest_on The Boss (subtitle:  Why didn’t This Happen Sooner)…  Seriously, the topics will include WMC (Winter Music Conference, LoKal, O-Gee (Columbus, OH), Seasons, Thursday Mix Show, and The Foreign Exchange.

Feel free to comment (this means leave praises and all necessary accolades).

2 Hour Mix from Franco de Leon – D/L It Now

G.U.R.U.Tribute Mix – D/L it FREE here

DJ Scend decided to begin a monthly tribute set for his Hump Day Mixshow here on CRB Radio last month in March.  With G.U.R.U. being admitted into the hospital, it sparked a thought in his head: “Why do people only begin paying respect to individuals who have passed away?”

This created the idea for a monthly tribute set that would be played the 1st Wednesday of every month during his mixshow.

He has gotten a ton of great feedback from this mix and we here at CRB hope you take some time to download the mix and check it out for yourself!  You can download the mix for FREE right here:

Hump Day Mixshow | G.U.R.U. Tribute 3/3/2010

As always we encourage you to pass along the link to the mix if you are diggin’ what you’re hearing as well as leaving comments on the site here so we can all get to know each other.
